Access Security To protect your valuable information and secure access to it, CIS provides a very comprehensive security model. To access CIS requires a secure login with a user id and a password. The passwords can be set to require periodic change and the complexity of the password can also be controlled. CIS provides an optional biometric login control which is based on a fingerprint scanner that matches the user’s fingerprint to a database of permitted users. The advantage of this approach is that it provides a positive identification of the user based on a unique fingerprint and eliminates the risk of an unauthorized person accessing CIS by stealing a user’s password. Access to the computer system itself is managed by the Windows security system which controls access to the workstations and servers. This is an industry proven technology and can be set to provide very controlled access to the system’s resources. The CIS security model uses a group permissions setup where you determine the access security at a group level to individual modules in CIS and the type of transactions permitted such as view only, change data, deletions, etc. Groups can be created to cover such functions as reception, administration, nurses, and physicians. Once the group security has been created users are then assigned to a particular group and inherit the security settings for that group. Any individual user’s security can be modified to override the group settings in effect for that user. This feature eliminates the need to create special group permissions when only one or two users require a slight modification. Privacy CIS safeguards privacy first by the built-in security system but also provides additional capabilities that are outside the security model. CIS provides the ability to lock the system on a workstation which causes the windows of CIS to disappear from the screen if a physician has to leave the examination room with a patient present for example. It requires a fresh login to restore the CIS windows to the screen. This feature prevents a patient from accessing CIS and view inappropriate data. CIS also provides a control that limits the users from viewing a particular patient’s history. This might be because the patient has expressed a desire that only his or her physician should be able to view information about them. |
