| Access Security and Privacy |

To protect your valuable information and secure access to it, CIS provides a very comprehensive security model. Accessing CIS requires a secure login with a user ID and password. For increased security, you can set passwords to require a specific level of complexity and periodic change. CIS also provides an optional biometric login control which is based on a fingerprint scanner that matches the user’s fingerprint to a database of permitted users. The advantage of this approach is that it provides a positive identification of the user based on a unique fingerprint and eliminates the risk of an unauthorized person accessing CIS by stealing a user’s password. Access to the computer system itself is managed by the Windows security system which controls access to the workstations and servers. This is an industry proven technology and can be set to provide very controlled access to the system’s resources. The CIS security model uses a group permissions setup where you determine the access security at a group level to individual modules in CIS and the type of transactions permitted such as view only, change data, deletions, etc. Groups can be created to cover such users as receptionists, administrators, nurses, and physicians. Once the group security has been created users are then assigned to a particular group and inherit the security settings for that group. Any individual user’s security can be modified to override the group settings for that user. This feature eliminates the need to create special group permissions when only one or two users require a slight modification. Privacy CIS safeguards privacy through the built-in security system and through additional security features that are outside the security model. For example, should a physician need to leave a patient in the examination room, CIS provides the ability to lock the system on a workstation which causes the windows of CIS to disappear from the screen. To restore the CIS windows to the screen, the physician simply logs back into the workstation. This feature prevents a patient from accessing CIS and viewing inappropriate data. CIS also provides a control that limits which users can view a particular patient’s history. This control may be activated if a patient has requested that only his or her physician should be able to view information about them.
