The CIS Core
Solo physicians, large multi discipline clinics, and specialists such as Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Dentists, and Optometrists have been using CIS for over 25 years to manage their patients’ demographic data, schedule appointments and recalls, and most importantly produce bills for OHIP, private accounts, and third parties such as insurance companies, industrial concerns and, lawyers.

CIS is one of the most widely used systems in the province because it provides the tools to manage the business affairs of practitioners efficiently and cost effectively. It is a stable system that provides the data to assess the effectiveness of the practice with statistical analyses of patient visits, profiles of services rendered, and the tools to manage the scheduling of appointments, lists for follow-up calls, and booking recall appointments. Most importantly, CIS provides the financial reporting and claims re-submission to insure the effective collection of accounts in a timely fashion to protect the practice’s cash flow.

Grow With CIS
P & P has added functions to CIS in such a way that you can start with the core system and add functions as you expand the use of electronic data collection in your practice. The Ministry of Health has introduced different funding models over the years such as FHG, FHN, HSO, CHC, FHT etc. CIS has kept pace handling all the necessary protocols to manage the way that you practice. You can expand the use of CIS by adding modules such as Laboratory, Immunization, Prescription Writer, Scanning, and Electronic Medical Records at a pace that is practical for you and your staff until you have a complete electronic record keeping system without any paper charts.

Funding Models
CIS provides you with the tools to manage your rostered patients. This is a very important feature of CIS because this gives you the information to vet the payments you receive from the Ministry of Health for your rostered patients. CIS also generates the bonus codes for those services that you receive in addition to your capitation payments.

If you are a FHG and bill Fee for Service then the system provides the same capabilities as the capitation models to manage your rostered patients and automatically generate the bonus codes for additional payments.

Service Enhancement Code Administration
CIS provides you with all the tools necessary to manage the administration of patient recalls that require letters and phone calls. The number of letters and phone calls are recorded for each patient as well as the acknowledgement when an appointment is booked or the patient declines. When completed the charges for generating the recalls are billed to the MOH.

Prescription Writer
CIS provides a very comprehensive and flexible prescription writer. You can enter prescriptions written by another physician, handle compounds, create regimens, and create and attach limited use forms and print the appropriate LU code on the Rx. The SIGNA permits for complex instructions such as variable doses for different periods.

Prescriptions are tracked for patients and for their safety CIS has one of North America’s most comprehensive drug interaction databases integrated. This will alert you to any interaction with existing prescriptions as you prescribe a new drug. Refills are easily handled and you can be alerted if the patient tries to refill a prescription too soon. You can also stop prescriptions manually or automatically.

You can fax prescriptions to the patients’ pharmacy from within CIS and with the optional signature tablet you can electronically sign each Rx.

Immunization Management
CIS provides the capability to manage the recalls for patients that require immunizations because of their employment. When the immunization has been completed you can produce the necessary certificate to show that immunization has taken place.

You can establish the baby and childhood immunization schedule and recall the patients when the immunization becomes due and record all the necessary information about the immunization.

Paperclip – The Intelligent Scanning System
Even if you operate a paperless office there is still a significant amount of paper that arrives either by mail or fax which must be integrated with patients’ charts. The external documents can be referral reports from specialists, laboratory results that are outside the electronic lab reports received from the major commercial labs, hospital diagnostic imaging reports, and sundry miscellaneous documents from third parties. You can create a directory structure for scanned documents that operates similar to an e-mail inbox where those documents are organized into logical groupings.

If you receive faxes electronically then you won’t need to scan these; they can be attached directly to the patients’ records from the folder where received faxes are stored.

Paper documents received can be scanned into CIS from several locations in the system and then attached to the patients’ records. Paperclip supports a ‘Smart Scan’ feature where you have the ability to train CIS to recognize contents of the document you are scanning. This function will automatically recognize the patient and display a query window where you can verify that the information has been correctly identified before attaching the document to the patients’ records.
