About Us

officeP & P Data Systems is a leading developer of paperless solutions for the medical industry. P & P helps physicians and health institutions become quick and efficient in handling client needs. Since its establishment in 1981 as a privately held company, P & P has shown its dedication to the medical industry by developing systems that cater to every medical specialty.

To meet the ever increasing demand for paperless solutions within the medical industry, P & P has developed dramatically since its early years. Through building a user-friendly software platform and focusing on innovative products, the company satisfies the operational challenges of all types of clients in the medical industry. Today, thousands of physicians and health care practitioners use P & P’s products to meet their individual needs.

With more than 600 health care service providers as clients, P & P’s solutions meet a diverse set of needs for the medical industry. P & P’s solutions meet the unique needs of Ontario’s health care market and the rules, regulations and standards set out by the Ontario Medical Association, OntarioMD, and the Canadian Medical Association.

Innovation

P & P’s electronic record management (EMR) solution is one of the industry’s most advanced software solutions designed to automate patient records and eliminate paper-flow. The solution improves the management of patient care by providing critical information in a paperless format at the practitioner’s fingertips. This allows doctors and practitioners to focus on patient-practitioner relationships. P & P’s EMR solution also enhances best business practices; this leads to increased revenues, increased growth, reduced expenses, reduced risk, and improved patient care.

P & P has a strong history of innovation; it was the first clinical management system (CMS) vendor to deliver real-time health card validation. P & P is currently OntarioMD CMS specification v3.0 certified. P & P recently achieved its ISO 13485: 2003 certification.

In March 2009, P & P became the first organization of its kind to become ISO 13485: 2003 certified. ISO 13485: 2003 is a standard, published in 2003, outlining the requirements for a management system to design and manufacture medical devices. It provides a harmonized set of quality management system requirements for medical device manufacturers.

Gaining ISO 13485: 2003 certification means P & P’s refined processes result in unparalleled customer service with an ability to deliver the industry's best software. It ensures a continuous focus on customer requirements; P & P creates customer feedback tools and builds customer input into the company's products' design, distribution and support.

Our data systems are developed using a solid development and database platform provided by Microsoft, including Visual Studio on the development side, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 / 2005 as our enterprise level database platform.  P & P Data Systems supports a combination of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 for workstations, and all levels of Microsoft Server products.

Products

P & P’s flagship product, Clinical Information System (CIS), provides essential management functions that support clinics, focusing on primary care, optometry, chiropractics, physiotherapy, internal medicine, and other specialties. On the market for 15 years, the product has evolved into a premier clinic management solution and is one of the first applications to offer the electronic medical records (EMR) functionality.

The solution is completely paperless and integrates many processes within the software, which results in better patient care and improved decision-making. The end result is a more efficient and responsive business operation for patients and service providers.

Since the introduction of CIS with EMR, P & P has continued to update and improve the software to reflect the changing business landscape. P & P recently released CIS version 7.4.5 which is certified under OntarioMD specification 2.0 guidelines -- a major accomplishment and an industry first.

The functionalities included in CIS are as follows:

• Registration
• Billing with the capability of electronic data transfer
• Scheduling
• Electronic medical records (EMR)
• Patient demographics management
• Automated health card validation
• Prescription and drug interaction
• Diagnostic results
• Laboratory and medical imaging integration
• Referrals
• Paperclip
• Analyses and financial report generator

Physicians may opt for more functionality through P & P’s add-ons to the CIS system.

Biometric Authorization: Before logging in or entering sensitive data, the clinician’s finger is scanned through a biometric scanner for positive authorization
• Smart Scan: Smart Scan allows clinicians to attach documents electronically to their patients’ medical records with minimal user interaction.
• Communications Management: Once a specific task has been performed, the system flags it appropriately and the task is closed. Similarly, if a communication is running late or not done, the system alerts the user for action on the task.
• Kiosk: On arrival at a clinician’s office, the patient simply swipes their health card through the kiosk’s card reader. Once done, the system immediately notifies the appropriate clinician and the patient is then promptly seen. The kiosk can even contact the Ministry of Health and confirm health card validity.
• Chronic Disease Manager: Since no two patients are alike, each dashboard is infinitely customizable based not only on parameters clinicians select but also those that relate specifically to the patient.
• Preventative Medicine: No more manual processes and misplaced sticky notes - all costly options. The product ensures patients never miss a maintenance appointment again. Already installed at clinical practices nationwide, it delivers many benefits to forward-thinking clinics and doctor’s practices.
