Privately held, and established in 1981, P & P is dedicated to the health care marketplace by developing systems that cater to every imaginable medical specialty.

With more than 600 health care service providers as clients, P & P’s solutions meet a diverse set of needs. Contracts are multi-year programs and typically encompass a software-hardware sale in the first year o and a twenty percent annual maintenance fee thereafter.

The company meets the unique needs of Ontario’s health care market and the rules, regulations and standards set out by the Ontario Medical Association, OntarioMD, and the Canadian Medical Association.

Our Innovation

P & P’s electronic record management solution is one of the industry’s most advanced software solutions designed to automate patient records and eliminate paper-flow. Its powerful enterprise-grade engine drives the process of managing patient care, allowing users to focus on patient with immediate, paperless access to mission-critical information. It enhances best business practices, allowing clinics and practices to: increase revenues; promote growth; reduce expenses; reduce risk, and improve patient care.

P & P’s history of innovation includes it being the first CMS vendor to deliver real-time health card validation, certified by Health Canada as a Class 1 medical device vendor. P & P is currently OntarioMD CMS specification v3.0 certified. P & P recently achieved its ISO 13485 certification and qualified for a Class II Health Canada Medical Device Establishment License – making the company unique in its industry.

In March 2009, the company became the industry’s first organization of its kind to become ISO 13485 certified. ISO 13485 is a standard, published in 2003, outlining the requirements for a management system to design and manufacture medical devices. It provides a harmonized set of quality management system requirements for medical device manufacturers.

It ensures a continuous focus on customer requirements - creating customer feedback tools and building customer input into the company's products' design, distribution and support.

Our Systems are developed using a solid development and database platform provided by Microsoft, including Visual Studio on the development side, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 / 2005 as our enterprise level database platform.  P & P Data Systems supports a combination of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 for workstations, and all levels of Microsoft Server products.

Facilities

The company is headquartered in a 20,000 square foot facility in North York, Ontario. Its Its facility includes a large conference room equipped with projection screens and computers, suitable for on-site training for customers and staff.

Customers

The company’s customers include leading health care service providers. Its relationships with many of its customers date back to 1982 when P & P began its operations.

More than 600 clinics and health care facilities use the company’s software. A single clinic can support many medical doctors and tens of thousands of patients. With the rapid adoption of electronic medical records, many clinics have deployed the full EMR application offered in CIS.

Products

P & P’s flagship product – Clinical Information System (CIS) provides essential management functions like registration, billing and scheduling, and operates in a paperless environment with EMR, prescription and drug interaction, diagnostic results, integration from laboratories, medical imaging departments and referrals. It supports clinics, focusing on primary care, optometry, chiropractics, physiotherapy, internal medicine, and other specialties.

The product, on the market for over 15 years, has evolved into a premier clinic management solution and is one of the first applications to offer the electronic medical records functionality.

It is a comprehensive clinic management system with features and flexibility unavailable in any other CMS. From single doctor practices to large clinics, P&P’s CIS is a proven solution – enhancing any medical practice. Its capabilities in automating patient records result in better patient care and improved decision-making, as well as streamlined integration of many processes. The end result is a more efficient and responsive business operation for patients and service providers. The product’s reporting system delivers a comprehensive set of analyses and financial reports, providing the most powerful report generators available in the industry.

Since the introduction of CIS with EMR, the product’s capabilities have been updated, streamlined and modified to reflect he changing business landscape. P & P recently released version 7.4.5 of its CIS – and is certified under OntarioMD specification 2.0 guidelines -0 a major accomplishment and an industry first.

It features a flexible and powerful scheduler, patient demographics management with the option of automated health card validation and a billing suite capable of electronic data transfer. Users requiring more features can customize the package with advanced immunization and compliance, prescription writing capabilities, truly paperless electronic medical records (EMR), and a lab connection module. For powerful and flexible document management facilities, P&P’s PaperClip module is also available.

Optional add-ons to the already robust platform include:

• Biometric Authorization: Before logging in or entering sensitive data, the clinician’s finger is scanned through a biometric scanner for positive authorization
• Smart Scan: Smart Scan allows clinicians to attach documents electronically to their patients’ medical records with minimal user interaction.
• Communications Management: Once a specific task has been performed, the system flags it appropriately and the task is closed. Similarly, if a communication is running late or not done, the system alerts the user for action on the task.
• Kiosk: On arrival at a clinician’s office, the patient simply swipes their health card through the kiosk’s card reader. Once done, the system immediately notifies the appropriate clinician and the patient is then promptly seen. The kiosk can even contact the Ministry of Health and confirm health card validity.
• Chronic Disease Manager: Since no two patients are alike, each dashboard is infinitely customizable based not only on parameters clinicians select but also those that relate specifically to the patient.
• Preventative Medicine: No more manual processes and misplaced sticky notes - all costly options. The product ensures patients never miss a maintenance appointment again.
• Already installed at clinical practices nationwide, it delivers many benefits to forward-thinking clinics and doctor’s practices.

Staff

P & P provides its customers with the industry’s best technical support. Its on-site and help-desk support are ahead of the company’s product’s feature set of CIS and is consistent with customer expectations.

Development: P & P’s programming department works on product enhancements by using object oriented code in servicing all facets of health care including allied health professionals like nurses, dieticians, nurse practitioners, as well as industry professionals like specialists, optometrists, dentists, and physiotherapists.

Quality Assurance: The company’s quality reviewers/testers work during development, alpha, and beta stages, checking all programs for general quality and bugs as well as create change reports.

Implementation: To ensure automation, P & P’s implementation specialists lead its clients’ staff into the world of electronic record keeping. The company’s clients can now meet their goals of implementing a cost effective system with advanced capabilities.

Training: Skilled trainers offer in-house and on-site training for all software from base Training, extended CIS, core EMR and extended EMR. Video is also used for training new staff.

On-site support: P & P’s on-site support (four specialists) cover specific regions, ensuring continuous availability, exceeding the company’s customers’ requirements. P & P also offers full-time presence to clinic sites. This enables technicians to offer both CIS support, as well as other support including desktop support, network and infrastructure support, consulting on workflow, as well as custom configuration support.

Help Desk: The company offers toll free support to answer all customers’ enquiries, fielding calls from all clients regardless of geography or clinic specification.

Account Managers: The company’s account managers meets with clients – reviewing their practice and use of P & P’s software. They also collate data on the strategic direction of the practice as well as areas to address in helping the client’s practice become more streamlined.
